Fifth grade concert brings all three elementary orchestras, choruses, and bands together

The WHSD Department of Music spring concert season continued on Tuesday, May 19 with the combined fifth grade concert, a special opportunity for the bands, choruses, and orchestras from Edgewood STEAM Academy, Turtle Creek STEAM Academy, and Wilkins Elementary STEAM Academy to join forces and showcase just how much they've learned over the last few months.

The fifth grade orchestra opened the show with three selections. Under the direction of Ms. Caesandra Burgh, the orchestra performed "Bohemian Stomp!" and "Aeolian Rock" before finishing with "Black Cat Crossing." Not only did the students perform the final piece well, but they added a special touch with some cat sounds, much to the delight of the audience.

The fifth grade chorus took the stage next. Mrs. Lisa Endler led them through a rendition of "Kokoleoko," while Mr. Kevin Shaw guided them through "A Brand New Song." The chorus finished with "Revolution" under the direction of Mr. Stephen Benton.

The fifth grade band had the honor of concluding the show. Under the direction of Mrs. Lora Hertrick, the band performed "Drum and Drummer," "Creepy Crawlies," and the mighty "Thor's Hammer."

Thanks to the administrations and staffs at all three elementary schools for their support in putting together this annual show. It takes a lot of coordination to make it happen.

We hope you enjoyed the penultimate performance of the spring concert season. The sixth and seventh grade bands, orchestras, and choruses from Dickson will wrap things up at the high school on Wednesday.
