A pair of Woodland Hills educators had the opportunity this summer to hop on a couple of podcasts and detail a few of the innovative partnerships the district has developed recently.
Dr. Eddie Willson, the Assistant to the Superintendent for Curriculum, and Ms. Tina Dietrich, the Director of STEAM and Innovation, joined Chris Woods on the "STEM Everyday Podcast" this summer. The half hour conversation covers the origins of the district's robotics program through its partnership with VEX Robotics, the rationale behind the emphasis on robotics and STEM education, the importance of including elementary students as part of the comprehensive K-12 curriculum, and the launch of associated programs like the Mother-Daughter Robotics Club, the Unified Robotics program, and more.
You can listen to their conversation on the DailySTEM website.
Dr. Willson also spent some time on an episode of "Steel Stories," where he joined representatives from U.S. Steel and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation to talk about the Reading Champions Program sponsored by those two organizations. The Reading Champions Program is utilized by third grade classrooms throughout the district. Dr. Willson talked about the overall impact of the program on reading performance by third graders, explained why third grade is such an important benchmark for a child's reading ability, and much more.
The full half hour podcast is available on the Steel Stories website.
Thank you to both STEM Everyday and Steel Stories for helping to shine the spotlight on the work being done throughout the district!
