The Woodland Hills School District Board of Directors appointed Dr. Helen K. McCracken as Interim Superintendent during its monthly legislative session on January 22, 2025. Dr. McCracken’s tenure is effective as of January 23, 2025 and she will serve in that role until Dr. Joe Maluchnik concludes his transition from his current post with the Wilkinsburg School District. Woodland Hills approved the hiring of Dr. Maluchnik as the district’s next Superintendent on January 15, 2025.
As Interim Superintendent, Dr. McCracken will provide Woodland Hills with an experienced administrator who has over 40 years of educational experience, including stints as Superintendent of the Canon-McMillan School District in Washington County and the Central Greene School District in Greene County.
Dr. McCracken spent the majority of her educational career in the Canon-McMillan School District. Prior to becoming the district’s Superintendent, she previously served as a building principal at all grade levels, director of curriculum and instruction, and assistant to the superintendent. Following her tenure with Canon-McMillan, she joined Waynesburg University as its director of Graduate of Programs in Education. She later became the Superintendent for the Central Greene School District before retiring in 2020. She also previously served as an assistant professor with the former California University of Pennsylvania (now PennWest California).
Dr. McCracken earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. She received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, principal certification, and Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania.
